Iwata: Revolution Release Dates?

Speaking at a recent Nikkei Business event, Nintendo President Iwata confirmed that no one will see the revolution prior to April of next year. He continued by saying “I want to put [The Revolution] on the market to as many countries as possible at the same time.”

So maybe the Revolution will be internationally released despite Microsoft’s vocal opinion on how it’s been difficult for them inventory-wise. Heck, Nintendo did it with the DS and micro, why not the Revolution.

  1. Hum… Why did Iwata specify (not before) April of Next year?

  2. An April release would cause me to flip. A May release would even be awesome (my bday is in May). A Septmember release would still be cool, but not as cool.

  3. April is the first month of the next fiscal year. Maybe this indicates that there’s a chance it will launch sometime in the Spring the world over and try to make it a very nice fiscal year. Plus, from what i’ve heard from GameStop, Twilight Princess is set for April 4th, so they might be waiting for it to do its damage in April and then unleash Revolution on us later. I bet we’ll see a Rev or Zelda commercial at the Super Bowl.

  4. Iwata saying: “I want to put [The Revolution] on the market to as many countries as possible at the same time.” has got me very, very excited.

It makes sense too. Nintendo’s 900-odd staff at their Kyoto offices specialise in games software whilst Nintendo have all but moved their entire manufacturing base to mainland China.

Add to that, the powerful (but not cutting edge) hardware that Nintendo can manufacture (from what I hear) at quick notice and rapid turnover.

  5. wow that would be great to have revolution/tp comercials come on during the super bowl….as long as they werent the average lame nintendo commercial

  6. I’m really hoping for a May release, as my birthday is June 2 and it would be perfect for me.

  7. The fact that it would be around by E3 is what excites me. We watch the press conference, hear new info, and play Mario 128 when they’re done. Better yet, imagine during the press conference, to involve the internet audience, Iwata tells us to log onto the WiFiConnection to DL a demo of a sick original IP he announced just moments before. We log on, get amazed, and the crowd stageside goes wild. Or even a small indie game, comeplete, and totally free for the duration of the conference. Shweet.

  8. I think it’s unrealistic to expect a Rev launch in May ’06 simply because they said it “won’t be before April”. That opens up the entire latter half of the year, and they’d probably release it closer to the holiday season, if for no other reason than to capitalize on the Christmas rush….

  9. Was thinking along similar lines – though the fact that Zelda: TP is the Cubes last significant outing makes me also think we’ll see Rev sooner in the latter half of the year rather than later.

Perhaps Aug/Sept in Japan, followed by Oct/Nov in US/Europe?

  10. “though the fact that Zelda: TP is the Cubes last significant outing makes me also think we’ll see Rev sooner in the latter half of the year rather than later.”

    Exactly.

I still say Summer is likely. June to be hopeful.
