What’s full of great music and rhymes with Metapod’s cocoons?

Nintentunes is here! This week we delve into a few licensed properties, take a look back at couple of franchise originals, and dive right into a game like no other. Hope you enjoy the music this week, so without further adieu, let us begin.
NES – The Karate Kid

Remember the days when not all licensed games were automatically garbage? Sure, there are still a few licensed properties today that come to mind as not complete crap, namely the Batman games from Rocksteady Studios and a little less recently the Astro Boy game Treasure brought to the GBA, but the majority of games are hardly worth mentioning. Karate Kid is of a different breed, and was actually fairly enjoyable. Ok, well I can think of one gamer who doesn’t like the game, but I digress. I can remember playing the game for countless hours and being frustrated every time the gameover music played and I had to start all over from the karate tournament.. Good times.

SNES – Final Fight

Final Fight is one of those games that you play over and over again, memorizing enemy locations until you get into a sort of rhythm while playing it. To this day I can remember every time one of those punks Andore come out of nowhere to tackle you. Beat ”˜em ups have come a long way since Final Fight, but I still count the series as one of my favorites.

N64 – Super Smash Bros.

The Smash Bros. franchise is one of the most beloved of any in the Nintendo repertoire, mainly because of the hodgepodge of characters from all of the companies best video games. It all started on the N64 with Super Smash Bros., and I still count the original as my favorite. Sure, the series was taken to a new level technically and graphically with the subsequent sequels, but there was just something….magical about the original. Not to mention that it had the best commercial of all time.

Gamecube – Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Yeah, I have a couple (all of them) Harry Potter games in my video game collection, want to make something of it?! While the game isn’t the most challenging title to ever be developed, the game mostly followed the plotline set by the book which is more that can be said about the motion pictures. There is just something about the Harry Potter universe that lends itself magnificently to interactiveness that comes with the video game medium that made me fall in love with this game. So sue me.

Wii – Let’s Tap

If there is one thing that the Wii was able to bring to the table it was the innovative play-style that the unconventional controls brought to gaming, and Let’s Tap is a prime example. The controls are so different from anything ever seen seen in video games that you don’t even have the controller in your hands while playing the title. For those unfamiliar with the title, check out the gameplay trailer for yourself. If you are at all interested in a change of pace from your average video game experience, Let’s Tap could just be the game for you.
