This short video documentary shows the making of Nintendo’s 2003 “School’s Out” promotion from the “Who are You?” marketing campaign that features hundreds of “Japanese” school children running, flying, and flipping their way to buy a new Nintendo product the second that school ends for the day. All though I always thought this commercial was filmed in Japan (I once saw it on a list of top 20 Japanese commercials), a post about this video on Kotaku informed me that not only was this commercial not made by a Japanese staff, but watching the video reveals that it was actually shot in Hong Kong, with fake Japanese signs put up around the city. The video really makes you marvel at all the energy, hard work, and money that goes into making even a thirty second commercial for the big N.
