According to a press release provided by Nintendo UK (after the jump), Pokemon X and Y has sold a combined total of 4 million units in just the first two days of sales.  Due to the high sales, it looks like X and Y are destined to become the fastest selling Pokemon of all time, so far projecting ahead of Black and White 2 by 70%!  Since 2002, only a select few Pokemon games have exceeded 10 Million units in sales, X and Y look like they will join the list:

Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon SapphireGame Boy Advance16.22 Million
Pokémon Black and Pokémon WhiteNintendo DS15.42 Million

“The early response to Pokémon X and Pokémon Y not only reaffirms the ongoing passion of Pokémon fans, but also indicates that an entirely new generation of gamers are eager to experience the franchise for themselves,” said Nintendo President Satoru Iwata.
Hypothetically, let’s say that, based on these early sales, Nintendo were to release a full fledged Pokemon Game on the Wii U, full RPG, full roaming maps, maybe even a completely interactive online experience where you can battle rivals/friends, trade Pokemon, and even lose them in battles to the one that defeats you.  How do you think sales would be?  Would that game alone bring the Wii U to the #1 spot between the three consoles, overnight?  Share your thoughts below, and remember this is completely hypothetical

POKÉMON X AND POKÉMON Y SELL MORE THAN 4 MILLION UNITS WORLDWIDE IN FIRST TWO DAYS

First Pokémon RPG for Nintendo 3DS launches simultaneously around the world

15th October 2013 – On Saturday, 12th October, Pokémon X and Pokémon Y became the first set of games in franchise history to launch simultaneously worldwide. Nintendo reported today that the games combined to sell more than 4 million units across Japan, Europe and The Americas on Saturday, 12th October and Sunday, 13th October*.

“The early response to Pokémon X and Pokémon Y not only reaffirms the ongoing passion of Pokémon fans, but also indicates that an entirely new generation of gamers are eager to experience the franchise for themselves,” said Nintendo President Satoru Iwata.

Since this was the first global launch in franchise history there isn’t an exact historical precedent for comparison. However, when combining and comparing regional data for previous launches, Pokémon Xand Pokémon Y would be the fastest-selling Nintendo 3DS title of all time and is tracking ahead of the last Pokémon RPG title, Pokémon Black 2 and Pokémon White 2, by more than 70 percent.

With more than 245 million games sold worldwide, Pokémon continues to be one of the strongest brands in the history of videogames. Since 2002, five sets of Pokémon titles have combined to exceed 10 million units sold worldwide, with three sets combining to surpass 15 million units. That list includes:
