NES Turns 20 Today

It was 20 years ago today, October 18, 1985 that the Nintendo Entertainment System was first released in the US. Arguable one of the best video game consoles ever made, the NES is where many gamers first got their start. Though Sony leads in market share today, “playing Nintendo” is still synonymous with playing video games.

Know your roots. Here’s to 20 more.

  1. Proud to be a part of it.

  2. Quote from article at ZDNet:

“But Llewelyn said that the Revolution, which is expected to be released next spring, will feature the ability to download old Nintendo games, including titles going all the way back to the NES.”

Very interesting indeed, seeing as how we’ve had all sorts of soft-date setting this past week.

Either way, spring or fall, I’ll be happy as long as they can deliver a great launch lineup. Which I know they will

  3. Well, Beth Llewelyn didn’t say that. ZDNet did. But i still think Revolution is set for Spring in Japan.

  4. I remember that day in 1987 when my father brought me to “child world” [a toys-r-us type store with a Panda as its mascot]. What a great day that was, to come home with a Nintendo for the first time.

I still play it today. HOLLA!

  5. Ahh… Sweet Memories!
I will forever treasure those memories.

  6. Funny, I just read a chapter about the introduction of the NES in the US…
So strange that nobody wanted to buy it at first (not customers, but stores)….
Did you know that the president of NoA wanted to abandon the NES in the US and Yamauchi nearly had to force him to try again ?
Luckily he did try it again 😉

  7. Three cheers..

Now excuse while i load up this ROM image…
