More gifts of Wii – Opera browser on Friday

Opera says they are giving us a free taste of their Wii web browser on Friday. They even made a comic about it, claiming that the final version will be ready in the spring.

It’s starting to sound like the ‘free-until-June‘ talk we heard from Nintendo only applies to a trial version.

I’m just glad we get to kick the tires on it before plunking down some Wii points for a browser. I haven’t paid for a browser since .. well, ever!

[UPDATE]

The Nintendo Of Europe press release says:

The final version of the Opera browser will be available at the end of March 2007, and will be free for all Wii owners to download through the end of June. After June 2007, the browser will be available for download in the Wii Shop Channel for 500 Wii Points.

That sounds much better. Since the press release came from NOE, this might not apply to non-Europeans, but I’m guessing it’ll be the same worldwide.

Either way, I retract my previous statements about Nintendo giving us the ol’ bait ‘n’ switch.
