iPhone app uses Wii as a sleep aid

As further evidence of Wii’s penetration into mainstream culture, its soothing warble has become one of the most downloaded sound effects on a popular iPhone noise generator. Among the fireplaces, rainstorms and white noise loops on a paid app called Ambience, you’ll find the Wii waiting to cart you off to dreamland.

The app’s sound effects can be mixed together, so you can transport this imaginary Wii to a henhouse, a haunted graveyard, a monkey cage, or a French cafe. You can send it underwater with whales or threaten it with Zambonis and cattle stampedes.

In the sound description, the app’s creator encourages iPhoners to buy a Wii, then good-naturedly asks Nintendo to not sue.

For testing, I combined Wii with a relaxing cabin fireplace. Set the timer. Head on pillow…Bam–Out like a light. I don’t think it took more than thirty seconds.

Personally, I’d love to see something like this as a built-in feature on 3DS!
