Ocarina of Time on Nintendo Switch 2: release details and remake features

Nintendo’s Ocarina of Time remake is available on Switch 2. Here are the confirmed changes, how it differs from the Nintendo 64 release, and where to find our Zelda coverage.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is available exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. Released on November 5, 2026, the remake revisits the Nintendo 64 adventure with new visuals, revised controls and an expanded presentation.

This guide covers the release and Nintendo’s confirmed features. Our assessment of the game will follow separately.

Release information

What has changed in the remake?

Nintendo lists overhauled visuals, voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, orchestral music, and reworked camera and movement controls. The Hall of Fallen Foes allows players to challenge enemies again. Fairy thoughts provide additional details to discover throughout Hyrule. The game also supports ZELDA NOTES through the Nintendo Switch App.

For the complete feature list, trailers and regional purchase information, see Nintendo’s product page and launch announcement.

The remake and the Nintendo 64 original

The Switch 2 remake is a separate release from the original Nintendo 64 game. Readers comparing versions should check the platform listed on the store page before purchasing.

For returning players, the camera and movement changes deserve as much attention as the graphics. Ocarina of Time relies on reading dungeon layouts, tracking enemies and moving between exploration and combat. How those controls work over a full adventure will be an important part of evaluating this version.

Is Ocarina of Time a good starting point?

No previous Zelda story knowledge is required. The adventure introduces Link, Zelda and Ganondorf, with exploration and dungeon puzzles forming the main progression. Players coming from Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom should expect a more directed structure.

First-time players may want to avoid detailed story summaries and dungeon walkthroughs. If you need help, a location hint can be enough to move forward without revealing the entire solution.

Ocarina of Time and the Zelda timeline

Ocarina of Time is a major reference point in discussions of Zelda chronology. Those discussions include spoilers, so we recommend returning to them after playing. Our Hyrule Historia and Zelda Encyclopedia article looks at the books and their timeline differences, with an optional Hyrule Historia PDF download.
