No Friend Requests or Private Messages for 3DS Miiverse

Miiverse2

Last Wednesday, it was announced via a 3DS-centric Nintendo Direct that the Miiverse and unified eShop balances would be coming to the Nintendo 3DS early in December. All the pieces seemed to be in place for the company to lead the way to the much-demanded unified Nintendo Network account system. However, one NeoGAF user noticed a lack of messaging icons in the screenshots of the beta version of Miiverse on the 3DS and decided to investigate. The user soon got into contact with a Nintendo of America representative. He was later told, much to his disappointment, that private messaging and even friend requests would NOT be available for the 3DS build of the Miiverse, only the community features.

This news certainly comes as a bit to disappointment to 3DS users who were hoping to find a way around the friend code exchanges customers have grown “accustomed” to since the handheld’s launch in 2011. However, it’s still likely private messaging can be implemented through a future system update, but Nintendo has yet to comment on that possibility.

Does this revelation change your thoughts on using the Miiverse community finally on a 3DS? Tell us in the comments below.
