Mario games are not known for their cinematic quality or storytelling, but the opening to Super Mario 3D World might just change that…slightly. Nintendo of America was able to share the opening cinematic to Super Mario 3D World for the Wii U to the public today, and it sure is pretty. The cinematic depicts Mario and friends having to rescue a green fairy from the clutches of Bowser. No word on whether or not the implications of the green fairy has to the overall storyline (the term is used loosely here) of Mario 3D World, but our heroes will be seen in a new are titled the Sprixie Kingdom.

Does this opening cinematic get you excited for seeing a full 3D Mario title in HD? Tell us in the comments below.
