Off topic: who’s seeing Scott Pilgrim today?

For those of you that aren’t in the know, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is a new Edgar Wright film based on the Scott Pilgrim comic book series. The series was heavily inspired by games like Zelda, Ninja Gaiden, River City Ransom, Sonic the Hedgehog, and many other memorable titles.

I might be seeing it with a good friend of mine today. How about you?

  1. I wish, but it got pushed to November down here… 🙁

  2. I want to see it. Not sure if it will be tonight, but maybe next weekend.

I did pick up the first 2 books through a comics app on my iPod Touch and read through the first one so far. I’m liking the story, and based on what I’m hearing about the movie, it taking it pretty literal. It’s like what real life anime would be like, if the rules of anime applies to real life. Definatly a movie made for geeks by geeks, vs. a movie trying to be smoothed out such that everyone might like it (Spider-Man, etc.)

  3. I have to wait until tomorrow. It’s killing me.

At least I have the PSN game.

  4. I would but county fair tonight; and I refuse to go to my movie theater anymore.

  5. @ llaffer

I dunno, I thought Spider-Man was pretty accurate to the comic books (more-so than say, the new Batman films, where Christopher Nolan seems bent on trying to improve everything from the comics–Bat Tank, anyone?).

  6. Ehhhhh no. I’ve seen a bit from the films and the characters seem a little unlikable. Also, all the video game references come off as sorta obnoxious, like they’re trying too hard. Count me out

  7. I’m goin’ with my girlfriend. Looks great. A minor fan of the comic series.

  8. After reading that first book, I really want to see it. So I spoke with the wife, and we’ll be going tonight. I wasn’t sure if she wanted to see it, but I think she sees my enthusiasm towards it and wants to give it a try.

  9. I am curious about it. It looks rather good. I keep hearing goof things about it . Have not read any of the comics, but that doesn’t mater, does it? I am sure I will get into it. I plan to see it tomorrow.

  10. I’d say it doesn’t matter if you’ve read the books before the movie. My kids and my wife enjoyed the movie without having read any of them.

But if you don’t read the books first, I’d recommend reading them after the movie so you can see how true to source the movie is. The only other movie I know of that stays that true to source is Watchman.

Even the “THUD” that they write on the pages since you can’t actually hear his head hitting the pole is written in the movie very similar to how it was done in the books.

I’m only about half way through book 2 myself, and I’m really impressed as to how spot on they got the movie. I’m definaly planning on picking up the rest of the books and giving it a read through, and this is definately a blu-ray purchase when it’s available in a few months.

  11. im seeing it today

  12. will be seeing it for sure. probably ending up seeing this week.
