Gameboy – Avenging Spirit

One of my favorite elements of the Nintendo download services is the ability to download classic games. When the eShop Gameboy version of Avenging Spirit was released a few months ago for the 3DS eShop, I may have been one of the few people jumping for joy and looking for my credit card to put down the 3 bucks to purchase the game. I remember playing the game for hours on end while taking the biweekly car ride to the grandma’s house back when handheld games took four batteries and instead of including three dimensional gameplay, included a monochrome 4-shades of color palette. Those were the days. Avenging Spirit was one the games I always had on me, and to this day the gameplay holds up. If you don’t believe me, go ahead and download the eShop version. No really, go do it.

Gameboy Color – Kirby Tilt ”˜n’ Tumble

Since the 3DS contains the necessary equipment to play games like Kirby Tilt ”˜n’ Tumble and WarioWare: Twisted (an accelerometer), I certainly hope Nintendo is planning on releasing these games to the eShop eventually. Kirby Tilt ”˜n’ Tumble is one of my favorite games to be released on the Gameboy Color, and it still passes the test of time. It is a hard game to go back and play however, simply because of the fact that if you play the game on anything other than an original toploading GBA or GBC, the game must be played in reverse because of Nintendo’s decision to move the cartridge slot from the top of the system to the bottom on the GBA SP. For this reason alone, I still own an imported see-through GBC. If you somehow are able to play this game in any fashion, do so, even if you have to plug it into your Gamecube Gameboy Player and tilt the whole system around. It will be worth it.

Gameboy Advance –  The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap

As Blake and may other have continually stated, Minish Cap is one of the most criminally overlooked Zelda titles to date. This Capcom + Nintendo pairing is one of the best experiences to be found on Nintendo’s third generation handheld, and if you dare to call yourself a Zelda fan but have you to play this game, you need to give yourself 13 lashes. From the music to the non-Ganon storyline, this game is top notch. Apparently Skyward Sword will have some sort of Minish Cap connection, but seeing as how I am on a Skyward Sword blackout, I won’t be able to tell you much about that until later in November.

Nintendo DS – Steal Princess

Oh how I love Atlus. Who else would publish an obscure puzzle/platformer mix in North America? While the levels in Steal Princess are relatively short and only take a few minutes to complete, the experience found in this Climax Entertainment game is so unique that everyone should give it a go. That is, if you can find yourself a copy. I made the mistake of waiting a few months to pick the title up, and had to pay a premium on ebay to enjoy one of the DS’s most unique games. Well worth it, however.

Nintendo  3DS – Tales of the Abyss

Ok, so I cheated with this title seeing as how it isn’t even availible on 3DS yet. This doesn’t discount the fact that the original had some of the best music found in a Tales title to date. I absolutely love Tales of the Abyss, and will gladly pay to play the title again in handheld form whenever it is released again for 3DS. I just hope that Namco Bandai decides to give the console an entirely new Tales experience sometime in the future. I suppose the sales of Tales of the Abyss will determine if this pipe dream actually comes to fruition, so go by it when it releases, dang it!
