Nintendo sends a surprise guest to some 3DS owners

North American owners of Nintendogs + cats got a Spotpass notice on their devices yesterday, telling them that the 26th President of the United States had dropped by for a visit, bringing along his bull terrier, Pete. The notification included a bit of historical background about the dog’s infamous reputation (he was accused of ripping the pants off a french ambassador.)

Now, this is fun. If you own N+c, Theodore Roosevelt and his dog are now residents of your Nintendogs town! You can meet up with the pair for a game of Frisbee in the park or simply wait to encounter them on a walk. Roosevelt brings a gift for your puppy! I won’t spoil the surprise, but let’s just say he didn’t spend a lot.

Unfortunately, clothing options in N+c are somewhat limited; Instead of appearing in an appropriate presidential suit or safari gear, the man who brought us the Panama Canal and the National Park System shows up looking like he buys his shirts at the same place I do: Target’s sale rack.

It’s great to know Nintendo can create Miis and send them to spotpass enabled games anytime. I hope this is just the beginning of guest stars and surprise content, and certainly not just for Nintendogs + cats. Too bad Pilotwings doesn’t support the feature; I’d love to see Amelia Earhart and the Wright Brothers drop in!
