Nintendo confirms free Pokedex 3D and Excitebike 3D for eShop launch

Nintendo just announced what many 3DS owners have been hoping for: Monday’s eShop launch will include two freebies: Pokedex 3D and Excitebike 3D.

Check below for Eugene’s summary of Pokedex 3D: This sounds like it could be a lot of fun, and the price is certainly right! I’m particularly happy regarding this morning’s confirmation that the game will support AR viewing of your Pokemon in real world settings. Could a genuine AR-based Pokemon game be far behind? Can E3 get here any sooner?

I’m looking forward to Excitebike in 3D; this version will include the ability to save custom-built tracks. Excitebike will be offered for free until July 7th.

Also mentioned: The internet browser “has the capability to show 3D images on sites specifically designed to show 3D images.” Let’s hope this actually takes off; it could be the next best thing to Harry Potter’s Daily Prophet.

Now, what would a Nintendo announcement be without a bit of frustratingly vague news? While they’ve confirmed Super Mario Land, Alleyway and Radar Mission for the 3DS virtual console, they say the games are “upcoming” and that new content will be added to the eShop on Thursdays. Huh. So…does that mean, upcoming for launch, upcoming for the following Thursday, or…Thursday whenever? I have enough faith in Nintendo to assume they wouldn’t launch the eShop without any VC titles, but…why is my gut doing a face-palm? Let’s hope for the best and…hey, free Excitebike, everyone!

Uncertainty aside, I can’t wait to get some more content into my poor, starving little 3DS! Anyone else excited about the freebies?
