Nintendo almost showed off Zelda Wii U at E3 2013

At E3 2013, Nintendo has two Zelda titles on the show floor. The titles in particular are an HD remake of the Wind Waker for the Wii U and the other being a sequel to A Link to the Past for the 3DS. Yet, unbeknownst to us, a third Zelda title in development was almost revealed. Nintendo had contemplated about showing off their progress for the next Legend of Zelda title for the Wii U; however, the company felt it was too early to tease fans and the public about Link’s proper return to home consoles.

Speaking with Game Informer, Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto mentioned his thoughts on why a new Zelda Wii U title was not shown during today’s Nintendo Direct. Miyamoto claims the idea of showing off the title was thrown around, but felt it was not proper for an early reveal. “We’re also working on a new Wii U Zelda game. Work on that is progressing fairly concretely. In fact, we were thinking about showing it here at E3 but decided to wait just a little bit longer before sharing it with everyone.”

The next Zelda title may be a ways away, but it’s understandable for the company not to give us a glimpse. While a slight reveal or update would’ve eased fans, Miyamoto and Co. want to keep the public guessing.
