Iwata shines again, says core gamers are “critically important”

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008 at 4:57pm by Jack

There was plenty to play and hear about from Nintendo at E3 this year, but nevertheless president Satoru Iwata wanted to reassure everyone who’s still shell shocked that everything’s going to be irie.

“We are sorry about [the E3] media briefings, specifically for those who were expecting to see Nintendo show something about Super Mario or Legend of Zelda,” Nintendo president Satoru Iwata told Forbes. “If there is any perception that Nintendo is ignoring the core gamers, it’s a misunderstanding and we really want to get rid of that misunderstanding by any means,” he continued. “The so-called big titles need a long, long development period…we really didn’t think this year’s E3 media briefing was the time to do so.”

Now, he’s basically saying he’s sorry you didn’t get what you think should have happened at E3, but it’s hopefully the last we’ll need to say about Nintendo’s E3 conference, so we can get back to gaming. And there’s plenty of that coming our way, from the DS to Wii to online–especially from third parties.

    Aww… Iwata, I can’t stay mad at you…

It is unfortunate that he must apologize for the unrealistic yearnings of the press and random forum fanatics, but if this will appease them so easily then they should violate their expectations more often.

So E3 a few years ago, when Nintendo announced SSBB, that was enough time into development? Despite the fact they had only just asked the director THAT DAY and not a single line of coding had been written?

Nintendo are pulling excuses from thier money making asses!

Nintendo has for the last year or so been talking about how they only want to show games when th ey’re nearing completion, Mark.
In other words, they aren’t pulling excuses. This is the implementation for a policy that, for better or worse, has been going on for about a year now.

I think its better to show the games when they are close to realease date. That way we dont have to wait that long to get a game (looking at freakin *but awesome* twilight Princess)

This is not to say I’m sorry it’s to expose the trolls. He basically states as the president that controls nintendo what he believe and wants to do. Instead of letting some loser put words and ideas into nintendo mouth this guys pretty much shuts every one up and makes their news of the nintendo being not for hardcore their little negative fantasy.

Really Iwata is on top of things and he is a very skilled pres as I can see. If nintendo stays quite then the fanboys from other system start painting nintendo into a corner that suddenly the masses believe. There are lots of people who claim to be nintendo fans but they are not hell most people posting probably haven’t played lots of 8 bit classics. We have way more PC gamers masquerading as console gamers. This is where a lot of the hate is coming from.
