Satoru Iwata is now also CEO of Nintendo of America

Following this morning’s financial statement, Nintendo has announced that Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata will be taking an additional role as Nintendo of America CEO. This moves timing is unlikely coincidental with this morning financial statement where net profits were half of its own projections despite now being in the black.

Nintendo said today “The move will support the company’s unified global strategy, allow streamlined decision making and enhance Nintendo’s organizational agility in the current competitive environment. Reggie Fils-Aime will continue in his role as president and COO of NOA, reporting to Iwata.”

It’s a reasonable assumption to make that If Nintendo had managed to achieve its recent projections we would not be seeing this move now. Hopefully Satoru Iwata has a clear vision for Nintendo of America and the real test will be how the Wii U performs during the next 12 months in America.
